It crosses over the Rhine and connects the Duisburg districts Hochfeld and Rheinhausen - the bridge of solidarity. In the years 1987 and 1988 the bridge was known in the whole of Germany as it stood in the centre of a labour dispute against the closure of the Krupp-steelworks in Rheinhausen. Pictures from the occupied bridge could be seen on television and in most papers.

The bridge was called originally Admiral-Graf-Spee-Bridge and had been constructed after the 2nd World War, as successor of a destroyed bridge. During the labour dispute about the steelworks in Rheinhausen it received by all participating employees the name 'Bridge of Solidarity', which was adopted by the town Duisburg later.
